Myrtle Beach to Host Beach, Boogie & BBQ Fest

Hosted by the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce, the sixth-annual Beach, Boogie & BBQ Festival will take place September 2-4, 2011, at Grand Park at Market Common in Myrtle Beach. Highlights of this family-friendly festival will include free live entertainment, great barbeque, three cooking events (Anything Goes on Friday, Official S.C. Barbeque Championship and Kansas City Barbeque Society Cook-off on Saturday), beer and wine garden, wake board demonstrations, free boat rides and more. Attendees can sample barbeque from all competing teams on Saturday beginning at 12 PM by purchasing a $10 wristband (kids 10 and under can sample for free). Myrtle Beach Boasts New Downtown Boardwalk

The new downtown Boardwalk is part of the new efforts Myrtle Beach is taking to revamp the old downtown area. The mile-long Oceanfront Boardwalk and Promenade lies between the 14th Avenue North Pier and the Second Avenue North Pier, and extends all the way to First Avenue. Construction, which began in the fall of 2009, was completed in May 2010 at an estimated cost of $6 million. The Boardwalk is a project of the Downtown Redevelopment Corporation. In addition, the Second Avenue Pier has undergone renovations that include the new upper level home of a casual, open-air lounge called Pier View that features spectacular views of the Boardwalk and Atlantic Ocean, as well as additional restroom facilities in the main floor tackle shop and the new Pier House full-service restaurant. Myrtle Beach to Host Biggest Loser Challenge

NBC’s inaugural Biggest Loser Event Challenge, a nationwide series of 5K and one-mile events for Americans of all fitness levels, will take place in Myrtle Beach on Saturday, September 25, 2010. Participants in this inaugural event will include Biggest Loser trainer Bob Harper, along with past contestants. The 5K will start at 8 PM on Ocean Boulevard between Eighth and Ninth Avenues North, run South along Ocean Boulevard through Family Kingdom Amusement Park and finish on the boardwalk near Ninth Avenue North. The one-mile challenge will start at 8:30 AM on Ocean Boulevard. After the Challenge, there will be a health and fitness expo, live music and photo opportunities with Harper and some Biggest Loser alumni. Myrtle Beach to Host First-Annual FAME Festival

Myrtle Beach will host the first-annual FAME (Food, Arts, Music, Entertainment) Festival on Saturday, April 24, 2010, from 10 AM to 10 PM. FAME will take place on Broadway Street between Fourth Avenue and Sixth Avenue North in Myrtle Beach. This free, family-friendly festival will feature local artists showcasing all types of art – from paintings to jewelry to photographs, as well as live entertainment, food, beer and wine, and a children’s area. The FAME entertainment schedule is as follows:

The Myrtle Beach area of South Carolina is introducing four inaugural events to its quintessential summer entertainment lineup along with the official introduction of its first-ever oceanfront boardwalk. The month of festivities coined as Myrtle Beach MayFest will be marked by celebrity appearances, music, food and entertainment for all ages.
 
Kicking off MayFest is the Arts & Film Celebration on May 1s, 2010, with a lineup that includes free celebrity meet-and-greets with Alex Meraz of Twilight: New Moon and Catherine Bell of Lifetime Movie Network’s “Army Wives.” Visitors will enjoy outdoor movies, R&B and jazz bands, food, arts and craft vendors, fireworks and more. The event will be held in conjunction with Arts & Film Celebration Week, April 24-May 2, with the F.A.M.E. (Film, Arts, Music, Entertainment) Festival starting the week.

On May 15, 2010, Myrtle Beach will officially unveil its brand new, mile-long, oceanfront boardwalk with a ribbon cutting ceremony and Beach Music Festival. To welcome this exciting new addition to the beach-front community, Buddy Valastro of TLC’s “The Cake Boss” will be on-site building a celebratory beach-themed flip-flop cake. The weekend will include free performances by eight beach music acts like Ben E. King, the Coasters and the Embers among others, followed by a fireworks spectacular to conclude the weekend.

The month-long party continues with the Beach Blast! Christian Music Festival on May 22, 2010. The ticketed event will feature a host of musical acts including TobyMac and The Afters, Kutless, speaker David Nasser and a variety of food, arts and crafts exhibitors – ending the evening with a fireworks display.

To conclude the May festivities, Memorial Day weekend will feature a free concert with headliner Jordin Sparks – winner of American Idol’s sixth season – along with other Disney & Nickelodeon performers Mitchell Musso, Drake Bell, Jasmine Richards and Savannah Outen. Families will also be treated to very special free celebrity meet-and-greets with such notable Disney & Nickelodeon favorites as: Nathan Kress of “iCarly,” Savannah Outen of “Hannah Montana,” Jasmine Richards of “Camp Rock,” Drake Bell of “Drake and Josh,” Tiffany Thornton of “Sonny with a Chance” and Debby Ryan of “Suite Life on Deck.” Visitors can also enjoy a massive Memorial Day parade with celebrity veteran and NASA astronaut, Buzz Aldrin who is currently competing on ABC’s “Dancing with the Stars” and will serve as the parade’s Grand Marshal.

Myrtle Beach welcomes Canadian and American visitors to the Grand Strand March 13-21, 2010, for the 49th-annual Canadian-American Days, which promises a full lineup of great live events, giveaways, discounts and concerts. Sponsored by the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce and RBC Bank, 2010 Canadian-American Days is expected to draw approximately 100,000 Canadian visitors, as well as snowbirds from Northern states. Founded in 1961 as Canada Days, this immensely popular event is regarded as the first international festival organized in South Carolina.
